New York Film Critics Awards names “Boyhood” best picture

PanARMENIAN.Net - The New York Film Critics Circle named “Boyhood” the best film of 2014, with the film also scoring honors for director Richard Linklater and supporting actress Patricia Arquette, Variety reported.

Other acting awards went to Marion Cotillard for her work in two films, “The Immigrant” and “Two Days, One Night” (best actress), as well as to Timothy Spall for “Mr. Turner” (best actor) and J.K. Simmons in “Whiplash” (supporting actor).

Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” took the trophy for screenplay, and Jennifer Kent’s “The Babadook” won NYFCC’s award for first film. Other honors went to Laura Poitras’ Edward Snowden documentary “Citizenfour,” Pawel Pawlikowski’s Polish film “Ida” and “The Lego Movie.” Darius Khondji won the cinematography award for “The Immigrant.”

NYFCC gave a special award to Adrienne Mancia, the former film curator at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

The organization tweeted its selections as the decisions were being made during voting session meeting, held Monday in New York.
