"Birdman" leading Golden Globe nominations with 7 nods

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced nominees for the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards on Thursday, December 11 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Past winner Jeremy Piven, past nominee Peter Krause, Kate Beckinsale, and Paula Patton were enlisted to reveal those vying for the coveted awards, AceShowbiz said.

In movie categories, "Birdman" gets the most nods with seven including Best Comedy or Musical where it faces off "Into the Woods", "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "Pride", and "St. Vincent". "Boyhood" follows with five nominations including Best Drama where it's pitted against "Foxcatcher", "The Imitation Game", "Selma", and "The Theory of Everything".

Competitions are stiff between "Birdman" and "Boyhood" as Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu who directed and co-wrote the superhero satire and Richard Linklater who helmed and penned the groundbreaking coming-of-age drama are clashing with each other to win the best director and the best screenplay prizes.

In Best Original Song, Lorde's "Yellow Flicker Beat" from "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1" is nominated along with Lana Del Rey's "Big Eyes" from the movie of the same name, John Legend and Common's from "Selma", Patty Smith and Lenny K's "Mercy Is" from Noah", and Greg Kurstin, Sia Furler & Will Gluck's "Opportunity" from "Annie".

"Annie", "Interstellar", and "Selma" manage to redeem themselves and score at least one nomination after being shut out of the nominations for Screen Actors Guild Awards. Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" continues being snubbed after previously getting the cold shoulder at the SAGs except for a nod in the stunt ensemble category. "American Sniper" is unfortunately no difference either.

Unlike Jolie who gets no love for her second directorial project and Bradley Cooper who doesn't get recognition for his portrayal as real-life Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, Julianne Moore nails it with her brilliant acting performances in movies "Still Alice" and "Maps to the Stars". She is vying for best actress in a drama for the former and best actress in a comedy or musical for the latter.

The winners including those from the TV categories will be feted at a live ceremony set to take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on January 11, 2015. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are scheduled to host the prestigious event for the third time in a row.
