London fest darling adventure-horror “Cub” sells to Altitude

PanARMENIAN.Net - Rolling off a successful festival run, Jonas Govaerts’ adventure-horror “Cub” has been picked up by Altitude Film Distribution for UK release, Variety reports.

Sold by Gregoire Melin’s Kinology, “Cub” world premiered at Toronto Midnight Madness and went on to play at Fantastic Fest, London Film Festival and Sitges, where it earned Govaerts the best director nod and the Youth Jury’s best film award.

Govaerts’s feature debut, “Cub” was released a month ago in Belgium by Kinepolis Film Distribution and has so far surpassed expectations, grossing over €500,000 from 75,000 admissions.

Penned by Govaerts and Roel Mondelaers, “Cub” follows Sam, a young imaginative 12 year-old boy off to camp with his Cub Scouts pack and stumbles upon a masked feral-child.

Pic is produced by Peter De Maegd of Potemkino and exec produced by Louis Tisné and Richard Christian Matheson. It stars Maurice Luijten, Gill Eeckelaert, Titus De Voogdt.

An promising genre helmer, Govaerts previously won the Golden Méliès award in 2008 for the short “Of Cats & Women.”

Deal was negotiated by Will Clarke and Hamish Moseley on behalf of Altitude and Kinology’s boss Melin on behalf of the producers. Altitude is planning to release the film next summer.

Altitude’s upcoming releases include “Love is Strange,” “When Animals Dream,” “The Connection” and “Amy.”
