Virgin Media wristband records TV when owner falls asleep

PanARMENIAN.Net - Virgin Media has developed a wristband that will pause television when you fall asleep in front of the television, according to Digital Spy.

The technology was created by two teenagers, Ryan Oliver and Jonathan Kingsley, who were commissioned by Virgin Media as part of its Switched on Futures initiative.

KipstR is a 3D-printed device featuring a pulse oximeter, which is able to detect whether the wearer is asleep and tells Virgin's TiVo box to pause and record the rest of a show.

It can also tell when the wearer is awake and resume from where it paused.

"We have been exploring the possibilities of connected entertainment for some time and are very excited to unveil KipstR," Virgin Media's head of advanced technology and innovation Neil Illingworth said.

"With emerging new technologies, it is possible to create almost anything, including emotionally entertainment systems that can suggest shows based on your moods, or even harnessing brainwaves to control your television."

Co-creator Oliver added: "Building KipstR with Virgin Media was a brilliant challenge for us but we've learnt so much and are really pleased with the end result.

"And to top it off I now know what to get my dad for Christmas as he is always nodding off in front of the TV!"

Virgin Media is currently trialing KipstR with TiVo customers who register their interest via their website.
