Amazon gains 10 million Prime subscribers over Christmas period

PanARMENIAN.Net - Amazon gained over 10 million new Prime subscribers over the Christmas period, according to statistics released by the company, Digital Spy reports.

The online retailer's 20th holiday season saw a huge number of customers trying Amazon Prime for the first time, as the retailer offered over 25,000 Lightning Deals.

Founder and CEO of Amazon.com Jeff Bezos said: "We are excited to welcome more than ten million new members to Amazon Prime this holiday season, who benefited from unlimited Free Two-Day Shipping on their holiday gifts. We are working hard to make Prime even better and expanding the recently launched Prime Now to additional cities in 2015."

Amazon also released a number of statistics about their festive sales and shipping, including the fact that the last Prime Now order made before Christmas was placed on December 24 at 10:24pm in the US and was delivered on the same day at 11:06pm.

Amazon Fire TV was named the best-selling streaming media box on the site over the season, while it was revealed that nearly 60% of customers shopped using a mobile device over the Christmas period.

Cyber Monday was the peak mobile shopping day, while Black Friday saw the most rapid growth in mobile shopping.

Amazon shipped to 185 countries over the festive period.
