Liam Neeson action drama "Taken 3" takes box office lead

PanARMENIAN.Net - "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" reign at the domestic box office has ended. After topping the list for three weeks straight, the third and final installment in "The Hobbit" movie is now defeated by "Taken 3". Taking a plunge to the fourth spot, "The Hobbit" raked in an approximate $9.4 million while the Liam Neeson-starring action packed flick garnered an approximate $40.4 million, AceShowbiz reports.

The first "Taken" was released in 2009. Taking in $24.7 million on its first week, the movie continued with the next installment which garnered $49.5 million in 2012. "Tak3n" which sees Neeson playing an ex-government operative Bryan Mills who has some "particular set of skills" also stars Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen and Forest Whitaker.

Next on the box office list is "Selma". The movie depicting a march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama to fight for voting rights led by Martin Luther King Jr. is on the second spot with approximately $11.2 million. The third place is taken by star-studded musical flick "Into the Woods", jumping from last week's second spot with an estimated $9.7 million. Angelina Jolie-directed "Unbroken" rounds out the top five after collecting about $8.3 million.

"The Imitation Game", a WWII drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley, climbed one rung from its position last week. The Alan Turing biopic is now on sixth place after garnering another $7.6 million, bringing its total domestic to $40.8 million.

"Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb", "Annie" and "The Woman in Black: Angel of Death" take the next spots on the list. Slipping two rungs to seventh position, "Night at the Museum" collected an estimated $6.7 million, while "Annie" is on the next spot with approximately $6.7 million. The ninth place this week is taken by "The Woman in Black: Angel of Death". The horror movie which is now on its second week plunged from fourth place to ninth after garnering approximately $4.8 million. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1" rounds out the top 10 with an estimated $3.7 million.
