Microsoft announces Windows Holographic that brings OS to lifeJanuary 22, 2015 - 13:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Microsoft has announced Windows Holographic, an augmented-reality version of Windows 10 that brings the operating system to life, Digital Spy reports. The platform is powered by an advanced holographic computer called HoloLens, which the user wears like a headset. The device uses see-through holographic lenses and is powered by a high-end CPU and GPU, but Microsoft also had to create a holographic processing unit to produce the desire effects. Users equipped with a HoloLens will see holograms beamed all around them, allowing developers to create immersive games or project a Skype conversation onto a wall. Holograms essentially function like real objects, with users able to move them around, poke them, and adjust them as they please. Other applications include training doctors to perform surgery, learning on the move, and the ability to blend real and virtual worlds in new and creative ways. The headset works untethered, without the need for wires, a synced phone or a connection to a PC. Holographic APIs will be enabled in all Windows 10 builds, allowing developers to use them in any software they create for the OS.
