“The Wolfpack” doc wins Sundance Fest’s Grand Jury Prize

PanARMENIAN.Net - “The Wolfpack” won the Grand Jury Prize for a documentary at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival’s award ceremony on Saturday, Jan 31, according to TheWrap.

Crystal Moselle directed the film that explores the sheltered lives of the seven Angulo children, raised by strictly religious parents on the Lower East Side of Manhattan who keep them interned in the family’s apartment. The brothers spend their time re-enacting their favorite films using elaborate homemade props and costumes while locked away from society.

The parents are Hare Krisna devotees, and the children, all with waist-length hair, are locked in by their father for years. Moselle, who met the family on a rare outing in Manhattan, was one of the only outsiders ever let in to their apartment.

“I f–king love you guys,” Moselle said to the brothers, watching from home, during her acceptance speech for one of the top honors of the festival.

Magnolia Pictures acquired the worldwide rights to the film on Thursday, and plans to sell international rights at the European Film Market next month.

Moselle produced “The Wolfpack” with Kotva Fims’ Izabella Tzenkova, Verisimilitude’s Hunter Gray and Alex Orlovsky, while David Cross executive produced with Tyler Brodie, Cameron Brodie and Louise Ingalls Sturges.
