Okinawa Movie Fest rebrands, announces lineup

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Okinawa International Movie Festival will change identity and become the All the Islands Okinawa Festival.

The change reflects a more community-based focus on Okinawa and surrounding islands, as well as a new programming philosophy in which films are just one item on the cultural buffet table.

The next edition runs March 25-29.

In a Special Invitation section, which combines the former Laugh and Peace sections, seven films will screen, including the world premieres of Japanese titles “The Ninja War of Torakage” and “Harajuku Denier.” Also in the lineup is the Li Xinman romantic comedy “One Night Stud.”

The only competitive sections are the Creator’s Factory for up-and-coming filmmakers, which is open to all lengths and genres, and the JIMOT CM section for TV commercials created by local and amateur filmmakers around the country.

The festival will also feature live performances by music and comedy acts from main sponsor Yoshimoto, a talent agency that has long been a major force in network television, while branching out into films and other media businesses.
