Ann Hui’s “The Golden Era” leads Asian Film Awards nominationsFebruary 25, 2015 - 14:29 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Ann Hui’s “The Golden Era” earned the largest number of nominations for this year’s Asian Film Awards, Variety reports. With five nominations, but not one for best picture, “Golden Era” edged ahead of a pack that included China’s “Black Coal Thin Ice,” China’s “Blind Massage,” and India’s “Haider” with three nominations each. Best film nominees were “Black Coal Thin Ice,” “Blind Massage,” “Haider,” Hong Sang-soo’s art house favorite “Hill Of Freedom,” “The Light Shines Only There,” and Korean megahit “Ode To My Father,” which curiously did not pick up a mention in any other category. There were also four nominations — all in technical categories — for Jiang Wen’s “Gone With The Bullets.” Best director nominations went to Hui, Hong and “Blind Massage” director Lou Ye, as well as to Vishal Bhardwaj for “Haider,” Lav Diaz for his four hour marathon “From WhatIs Before” and to Tsukamoto Shinya for “Fires on the Plain,” which did not secure any other nominations. The awards will be chosen by a 14 person jury headed by Hong Kong film director Mabel Cheung and also including Cannes selector Christian Jeune and Venice festival chief Alberto Barbera. They will be presented in Macau on Wed, March 25. Top stories The creative crew of the Public TV had chosen 13-year-old Malena as a participant of this year's contest.
