Microsoft's first-party studios working on HoloLens games

PanARMENIAN.Net - Microsoft's first-party studios are working on HoloLens games, the firm has revealed, according to Digital Spy.

Speaking at GDC 2015 keynote address 'The Future of Gaming Across the Microsoft Ecosystem' to developers, Xbox head Phil Spencer said the response to the device's January reveal was "spectacular", that studios are "active" in developing games, and that their efforts are set to be shown this year.

"I think HoloLens has a ton of uses... and I know that any consumer electronics device that gets to scale, gaming and entertainment is going to be critical," he told attendees including Digital Spy.

"Our first-party studios are active today building game entertainment for HoloLens, and you're going to see more of that throughout the year."

He continued: "We see this as a full Windows 10 device with holographic capability, and we want to make sure as a first-party game organisation, we're working to build games to help us craft the device, craft the platform and service that's available, and make sure that when you choose - if you do - to use those tools, that it's all there."

Spencer said holographic APIs (building applications for developers) will be available as part of the Windows Insider programme, and more will be heard at its Build conference later this spring.

At the conference Spencer also revealed new games to have cross-Xbox One and Windows 10 support - including #IDARB and Zen Pinball 2 - as well as announcing that Elite: Dangerous is coming to Xbox One this summer.

Other announcements from GDC this week include Nvidia unveiling new Android-powered Shield hardware for the living room, which would support 4K video playback and a new 1080p game streaming service.

Meanwhile, Sony revealed its virtual reality device Project Morpheus will debut in the first half of 2016.
