Oscar-nominated “Dam Keeper” to get graphic novel treatmentMarch 13, 2015 - 13:04 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The world of “The Dam Keeper”, the Oscar-nominated animated short by Robert Kondo and Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi, is expanding, according to Variety. Tonko House, the studio behind “The Dam Keeper,” has sold the world rights to First Second, a Macmillan imprint, for two graphic novels based on the tale of a bullied pig who keeps environmental disaster at bay with a special windmill and his new friends. The filmmakers have also announced plans to develop a feature film that expands “The Dam Keeper” universe as well. “The Dam Keeper” was nominated for animated short at the recent Academy Awards and has played at more than 75 film festivals worldwide, winning 25 awards along the way. The books will pick up a few years after the events of the short and will answer key questions left by that film, in particular the presence of the dark cloud that must be pushed away from the walled city by the pig’s windmill, and will feature the key characters Pig and Fox.
