“Meeting Dr. Sun” receives Grand Prix for best pic at Osaka Asian Film Fest

PanARMENIAN.Net - “Meeting Dr. Sun” by Taiwanese director Yee Chih-Yen received the Grand Prix for best picture at the Osaka Asian Film Festival’s awards ceremony Sunday, March 15 at ABC Hall in Osaka, Digital Spy reports.

The high school comedy about two boys who both, unbeknownst to each other, plot to steal a statute from a school storage room also won the audience award.

The most promising talent award went to Thai director Mez Tharatorn for the romantic comedy “I Fine.. Thank You.. Love You.” Special mention went to Hong Kong actress Charlene Choi for her performance as a crusading journalist in Herman Yau’s “Sara.”

The OAFF, whose 10th edition unspooled March 6-15, presents Asian films that have not yet premiered in Japan. In addition to the 12-film competition, the festival program this year included sections on Hong Kong and Taiwanese cinema, action films from Southeast Asia, and films marking the fourth anniversary of the March 11, 2011, earthquake, tsunami and reactor meltdowns in northern Japan.
