Samsung's next smartwatch “six months away from launch”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Samsung's next smartwatch could be six months away from launch, following rumours of a product announcement at the IFA tradeshow, Digital Spy said citing Tizen Indonesia.

The tech giant's so-called Orbis wearable will break cover at the Germany event in September.

Samsung recently confirmed that it is taking a hiatus from smartwatches to focus on developing "a more perfect product", but is believed to have already carried out work on the Orbis.

Leaked patent documents recently shed light on what form the Orbis will take, describing a round-faced device with a wide range of functions.

It is said to include object, image and barcode recognition, a feature that could work in conjunction with the recently-announced Samsung Pay service.

Other possible functions include acting as a TV remote control, doubling as a key fob, health sensors and a built-in camera.

Since 2013, Samsung has launched wide range of wearable devices, including the Gear Live, Gear S, Gear 2 Neo, Galaxy Gear and Gear Fit.

IFA 2015 takes place between September 9 and September 11.
