PanARMENIAN.Net - Rumor has it, J.J. Abrams will be returning on the director's seat for the upcoming "Star Wars Episode IX". Latino Review broke the news that Abrams has become the frontrunner to direct the final installment in the "Star Wars" new trilogy upon seeing his works for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", AceShowbiz reports.

There are no official words just yet from Walt Disney Pictures about the matter. Abrams himself has not commented on the report of him returning to the forthcoming film, which has been slated for a 2019 release.

In the meantime, there were reports circulating that Abrams had disagreement with the film studio which resulted in him not directing the "Star Wars Episode VIII", which will be written and directed by Rian Johnson. The renowned film director is currently finishing up "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" which opens December 18 this year. The feature's spin-off, "Rogue One", directed by Gareth Edward will follow on December 16, 2016, before "Star Wars Episode VIII" hits theaters in May 2017.
