“Goodfellas” cast reunite for Tribeca Fest 25th anniv. screening

PanARMENIAN.Net - The cast and creators of “Goodfellas” will reunite at the Tribeca Film Festival for a closing night screening of the film on Apr. 25, TheWrap reports.

Organizers did not specify which cast members would attend, but stars of the 1990 Oscar-nominated crime drama include Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino.

De Niro is a co-founder of the festival, so it’s hard to imagine he won’t be joining the discussion, led by “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart, following a screening of the film remastered from a 4k scan of the original camera negative.

Director Martin Scorsese, who said he is “excited and moved” by festival organizers’ decision to honor the gangster classic, supervised the remastering process prepared in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary.

The screening of the movie based on author Nicholas Pileggi’s “Wiseguy” will take place at The Beacon Theatre. The Tribeca Film Festival will begin on Apr. 15 and end on Apr. 26.

“While TFF’s mission is centered around new stories and voices, we also seek to honor the creators and films that have shaped the cultural landscape,” Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, said in a statement. “‘GoodFellas’ is one of those pictures with an honest and stylized portrayal of the gangster lifestyle that has inspired a generation of filmmakers and television directors across genres. We are proud to celebrate its 25th anniversary at our closing night and introduce new audiences to one of Marty’s masterpieces.”

De Niro added, “I was most proud of this film 25 years ago, and equally proud of it now. I’m very happy that it is our closing night film.”
