Microsoft confirms plans to scrap Internet Explorer brand

PanARMENIAN.Net - Microsoft has confirmed that its Internet Explorer brand will disappear on Windows 10, according to Digital Spy.

The company has already revealed that a new browser currently codenamed Project Spartan will replace Internet Explorer but it won't carry the 19-year-old name.

"We're now researching what the new brand or the new name for our browser should be in Windows 10," said marketing chief Chris Capossela at the Microsoft Convergence event.

"We'll continue to have Internet Explorer, but we'll also have a new browser called Project Spartan, which is codenamed Project Spartan. We have to name the thing."

Internet Explorer will live on partially in some versions of Windows 10 for enterprise purposes, but Project Spartan will be the new default browser.

Microsoft has made several unsuccessful attempts to revitalise the brand against tough competition from the likes of Google Chrome in recent years.

Capossela hinted that the Microsoft name could be included in the new brand, following positive research.

"Just by putting the Microsoft name in front of it, the delta for Chrome users on appeal is incredibly high," he added.

Microsoft also confirmed that Windows 10 will land in the summer as originally planned.
