Adele’s “21” named biggest selling artist album of the millennium

PanARMENIAN.Net - Adele has managed to score the biggest selling artist album of the millennium to date, Gigwise reports.

According to figures for the Official Charts Company, Adele's second album has sold nearly 4,740,000 copies in the UK to date, including spending 23 weeks at No.1. Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black is in second place with sales of over 3,560,000 since being released in 2006.

The rest of the list makes slightly more depressing reading with James Blunt's debut, Leona Lewis Spirit and Dido's No Angel filling out the top five. It's particularly galling for anyone with even a passing interest in guitar music that the only passable 'rock' album in the top 20 is from Kings Of Leon (and the only hip-hop album is Eminem's breakthrough LP).

The full top 20 is:

1. 21 - Adele 2. Back To Black - Amy Winehouse 3. Back To Bedlam - James Blunt 4. Spirit - Leona Lewis 5. No Angel - Dido 6. 1 - Beatles 7. Crazy Love - Michael Buble 8. White Ladder - David Gray 9. The Game Lady Gaga 10. A Rush Of Blood To The Head - Coldplay 11. Life For Rent - Dido 12. Only The Night - Kings Of Leon 13. Beautiful World - Take That 14. Hopes and Fears - Keane 15. Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters 16. X&Y - Coldplay 17. Parachutes - Coldplay 18. Come Away With Me - Norah Jones 19. Gold - Abba 20. The Marshall Matthers LP - Eminem

Emily Eavis recently denied rumours that Adele would be performing at the festival in Somerset. However, Emily Eavis has told The Sun that's it's not to be: "I would love Adele. To have Adele would be a complete dream, but she's not going to be here this year." Ever secretive when it comes to rumours, she added, "That's the only denial I will do."

Glastonbury Festival 2015 takes place at Worthy Farm in Somerset from 24 - 28 June 2015.
