PanARMENIAN.Net - Matt Damon stands against what will pass for a desolate Mars landscape in the first photo from the set of Ridley Scott‘s adaptation of “The Martian”, TheWrap reports.

The novel’s author, Andy Weir, posted the photo to his Facebook to illustrate that Damon’s assistant, a Seattle Seahawks fan, now has to wear New England Patriots paraphernalia for a year after his team lost the Super Bowl.

But more interesting than the lost bet is the first glimpse of the set of the film based on Weir’s bestselling book, about an astronaut who’s presumed dead and left behind on Mars.

Damon plays that interstellar castaway, Mark Watney, and is seen wearing a uniform that indicates as much, against a background of red sand dunes, as well as a Rover that will be one of his primary tools of survival in the story.

Filming is now underway in the Wadi Rum valley of Jordan, which is substituting for the surface of Mars.

“The Martian,” also starring Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jessica Chastain and Kate Mara, among others, will be released on Nov. 25.
