Baku threatens journalists over visit to Nagorno Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - Baku has thrown yet another traditional fit, this time, over the visit of Yerevan-hosted forum participants to Karabakh.

30 participants of the international media forum At the Foot of Ararat, dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide, paid a 3-day visit to the Nagrono Karabakh where they met the republic's leadership and were taken sightseeing.

Naturally, Azerbaijan couldn't let it go, and, habitually, launched into an angry tirade against those who dared to visit Karabakh, threatening punishment and "relevant measures."

One might assume that "relevant measures" imply inclusion into the notorious Azeri black list, which at most, can merit an indifferent shrug from foreign journalists.

On August 2, 2013 Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry published its “famous blacklist” which includes Slovak politician Frantişek Mikloşko, Argentinean parliamentarian Jose Arbo, Russian expert Andrey Areshev, Baroness Caroline Cox, opera star Montserrat Caballé and many other famous personalities.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
