Facebook update makes friends more prominent

PanARMENIAN.Net - Facebook's News Feed has become a stream of "awesome" cat videos, game invites and brand spam, but thankfully Zuckerburg and co are aiming to change that, Digital Spy reports.

The company states that a new update to the News Feed will "ensure that content posted directly by the friends you care about, such as photos, videos, status updates or links, will be higher up in News Feed so you are less likely to miss it."

From now on, a video or news article that a friend has 'liked' will appear lower in your News Feed, while status updates and images will take priority.

This is an attempt to clear the current cluttered feed in order to win back users who have been put off by aggressive marketing on the platform.

However, it is bad news for businesses that use the platform for advertising, as they could see traffic decline.

Don't think that irrelevant posts will be completely banished though; the blog post which details the new update states that the aim is to "make the balance of content the right one for each individual person".
