Yahoo's Flickr receives radical overhaul

PanARMENIAN.Net - It didn't look like there was room for Flickr alongside Instagram and cloud storage services - but the photo platform could be relevant again thanks to its latest update, Digital Spy reports.

Yahoo has completed a radical overhaul of its photo storage service, launched new apps for iOS and Android, and revamped the desktop and web-based versions.

Flickr 4.0 wants to serve as your primary destination for photo uploads, and it offers 1TB of free storage so you can back up your entire collection.

To encourage users to do this, Yahoo has introduced the Camera Roll interface, which organises pictures based on date shot, date uploaded, or even subject matter.

Thanks to a new 'magic' search tool, Flickr is now able to determine exactly what is in your photos, telling the difference between different animal species, landscapes, seasons and more.

When an image has been uploaded, the app will automatically apply a series of descriptive tags to help users locate them via the search engine.

A new tool called Uploadr allows users on PC and Mac to upload scores of pictures stored locally or externally in one fell swoop.

Flickr 4.0 has been given a visual redesign on all platforms, with a new image-centric interface that is said to be easier to navigate.

Yahoo has positioned the service as a platform that combines elements of a photo storage repository, an editing suite and a social network.
