Tom Hardy’s gangster thriller

PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal has set an awards season launch for crime thriller “Legend” with an Oct. 2 platform debut, Variety reports.

“Legend,” directed by Brian Helgeland from his own script, is based on the rise and fall of Reggie and Ronnie Kray, twins who dominated organized crime in London during the 1960s before their 1969 convictions for murder. Hardy, who stars in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” portrays both Kray brothers.

The brothers were widely feared and involved in armed robberies, arson, protection rackets, assaults and the murders of Jack “the Hat” McVitie and George Cornell. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Productions companies are Studiocanal, Working Title Films and Cross Creek Pictures. Producers are Working Title Film’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, Cross Creek’s Brian Oliver, Chris Clark and Quentin Curtis.

“Legend” co-stars Emily Browning, David Thewlis, Christopher Eccleston, Chazz Palminteri, Tara Fitzgerald and Taron Egerton. Universal will release the thriller in the U.S., and Studiocanal will distribute in the U.K., France, Germany and Australia/New Zealand.

Universal also set comedy “A Meyers Christmas” for Nov. 11, 2016. Will Packer (“Ride Along,” “Think Like a Man”) is producing with David E. Talbert directing from his own script about an estranged family that must reunite for their first Christmas since the death of the beloved family matriarch.
