"Edge of Tomorrow" helmer to direct Tom Cruise in "Mena"

PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal Pictures announced that the production of its upcoming movie "Mena" had begun in Georgia. They also confirmed the cast which includes Tom Cruise who takes a lead role in the film. The project reunites Cruise and director Doug Liman, who previously directed him in "Edge of Tomorrow", AceShowbiz reports.

In this film, Cruise plays Barry Seal, a hustler and pilot who is unexpectedly recruited by the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history. Cruise will once again do his own stunts, just like what he did for "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation".

"I love stories of improbable heroes working against the system, and Barry Seal took the government, and our country, for an unbelievable ride," Liman said of the movie. "Interpreting his story has the makings for an entertaining film that is equal parts satire, suspense and comedy - and always surprising."

Cruise is joined in the cast by the likes of Domhnall Gleeson ("Ex Machina"), Sarah Wright ("Marry Me"), Jesse Plemons ("Friday Night Lights"), Caleb Landry Jones ("X-Men: First Class"), Jayma Mays ("Glee"), Benito Martinez ("House of Cards"), E. Roger Mitchell ("Selma"), Lola Kirke ("Gone Girl") and Alejandro Edda ("The Bridge").

The film is produced by Doug Davison, Brian Grazer, Kim Roth, Brian Oliver as well as Tyler Thompson. It is slated for a release on January 6, 2017.
