Apple expected to announce long-awaited streaming service

PanARMENIAN.Net - It was half expected but it seems that Apple really will announce its long-awaited streaming service at WWDC 2015 today (June 8), Digital Spy reports.

Sony Music CEO Doug Morris revealed the news a little early in an on-stage interview about his career at Midem, Cannes.

"It's happening tomorrow," Morris said on Sunday.

He didn't have any details about pricing or features but did say he believed Apple's offering would act as a "tipping point" for the shift to streaming.

"What does Apple bring to this?" he continued. "Well, they've got $178 billion in the bank. And they have 800 million credit cards in iTunes.

"Spotify has never really advertised because it's never been profitable. My guess is that Apple will promote this like crazy and I think that will have a halo effect on the streaming business."

As a top executive, Morris's words are likely to be true but we will have to wait until concrete details come from Apple itself later today, at its keynote at the Worldwide Developers Conference from 6pm UK time (10am PST).
