Uruguay’s ex-President attends 20 Martyrs centennial commemoration

PanARMENIAN.Net - Former Uruguayan President Jose Mujica accompanied the Armenian community in Uruguay to commemorate the centennial of Armenia’s 20 Hunchakian Martyrs at Montevideo Plaza Armenia, on June 15, 2015, Massis Post reports.

The congregation also included Minister of the Embassy of Argentina Santiago Vazquez Montenegro, Father Antonio Kechedjian, and Ms. Alicia Aprahamian on behalf of the Honorary Consul of Armenia in Uruguay.

The congregation led by President Mujica laid a wreath at the Plaza’s Khachkar and twenty flowers at the base of the Armenian Genocide monument. Social Democrat Hunchakian Party Executive Committee member Mr. Diego Karamanoukian addressed the congregation on the importance of remembering the 20 Martyrs. As the names of the 20 Martyrs were remembered, 20 doves symbolizing peace were released.
