Fragile States Index: Armenia tops list of countries with low risk levels

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia was placed the 108th among 178 nations in Fragile States Index 2015 to top the list of countries with low risk levels, ARKA reports.

The Fragile States Index 2015, released by the US Fund for Peace and Foreign Policy magazine, assesses the ability or inability of the authorities to maintain integrity of the territory and to be in control of demographic, political and economic situation in the country.

The list of 16 countries with highest level of instability is topped by South Sudan.

The countries with stability level below the average are Iran (44th), Uzbekistan (51st), Tajikistan (57th), Kyrgyzstan (62nd), Russia (65th), Georgia (70th), Turkmenistan (78th), Azerbaijan (80th), Ukraine (84th), Belarus (87th), Turkey (90th) and Moldova (96th).

Some 56 countries considered to have a stability level above the average include Armenia and Kazakhstan (110th).

The list of 15 countries enjoying well-being and state stability is topped by Finland.

The Fragile States Index, produced by The Fund for Peace, is a critical tool in highlighting not only the normal pressures that all states experience, but also in identifying when those pressures are pushing a state towards the brink of failure. By highlighting pertinent issues in weak and failing states, The Fragile States Index—and the social science framework and software application upon which it is built—makes political risk assessment and early warning of conflict accessible to policy-makers and the public at large.
