Facebook “planning to launch music service”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Little after the launch of Apple Music, it seems Facebook may want in on the music sector too.

As AceShowbiz reports citing The Verge, the social networking giant has been in talks with record labels Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.

Discussions are in the very early days however, as sources claim Facebook isn't even sure how it wants to get involved in music yet.

Another source who spoke to The Information suggests that Facebook may use videos as a way to penetrate music, although the social network apparently wants something "unique" - so a streaming service isn't necessarily what will come out of the talks.

It's no surprise that Facebook wants to play its own musical tune. Across the tech landscape, the majors such as Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft all have their own music services, while Facebook does not.

Facebook will be cautious not to make the same mistakes as Twitter's ill-fated #Music platform, which was pulled after just a year in April 2014.
