Number of endangered cultural monuments grows in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The number of endangered cultural monuments increased over the past six months in Armenia.

According to experts, the lack of protection zones is a top issue, which is a serious obstacle on the way of preservation of monuments.

The current situation was discussed during a meeting on activities carried out by the Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum Reservations non-commercial state organization in Lori, Tavush, Vayots Dzor, Shirak, Syunik and Armavir provinces, Gladzor University historical-cultural museum-reserve, Arpi natural-historical reserve, Zvartnots historical-cultural museum-reserve, Zorac Qarer historical–cultural reserve.

Chiefs of regional services and heads of branches delivered reports, presenting the previous months’ activities. They singled out the issue of housing conditions, mentioning that those problems have hampered a number of undertakings.

Some museum reserves hosted more visitors in the first six months of 2015 against the same period in 2014.
