  Armenian, Russian FMs discuss Karabakh conflict settlement July 18, 2015 - 21:59 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov discussed Friday, July 17, the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website. Also Friday, Lavrov referred to the issue during a meeting with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, Elmar Mammadyarov, emphasizing that it is high time to intensify efforts for settling the conflict. "We'll be able to make progress in the near future,” Lavrov told Mammadyarov.    The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army.
