Google Map Maker edits allowed again

Google Map Maker edits allowed again

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Google Maps community can once again edit content in select territories, three months after an act of digital vandalism forced the web giant to put it on lockdown, Digital Spy said.

The search engine firm suspended the Map Maker editing service after an image of its Android logo urinating on the Apple emblem appeared on a custom-edited map.

Since then, Google has been seeking a more effective way to police the service to avoid a repeat of the peeing Android incident - and it appears the answer lies within the community.

Google has appointed 'regional leads' in Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, India, Ukraine and the Philippines to vet community content submitted in each area.

Map Maker is live again in these countries, and is expected to reopen elsewhere as soon as more moderators have been recruited.

"Map Maker will open up in phases in other countries over the coming weeks. Please stay tuned for updates," is the official line from Google.
