Kenneth Branagh to helm

PanARMENIAN.Net - A movie to be made based on popular young adult novel "Artemis Fowl" is not a secret but that Kenneth Branagh is backing it up is news. Disney's long-gestating project is taking a new life under Branagh's supervision, according to AceShowbiz.

The "Thor" helmer is also signed to direct the adaptation using the script possibly penned by Conor McPherson. The Irish playwright is still in talks, meaning the project is in early developing stage. However, Variety reports that the movie is heading to the right direction this time.

Written by Eoin Colfer, the book series center on 12-year-old Artemis Fowl II who is a millionaire, a genius and a criminal mastermind. He captures a fairy named Holly Short and hopes to ransom her to the Fairy People in an attempt to restore his family's lost fortune. But this version of fairies are dangerous mythical creatures.

Branagh is producing the movie with Harvey Weinstein. Julie Oh is overseeing for Weinstein while Tendo Nagenda and Jessica Virtue are overseeing for Disney.
