Samsung wants its Gear S2 to work with iPhones

PanARMENIAN.Net - Run an iPhone 6 but covet the new Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch? Well, your Apple handset could soon play nice with the Sammy wearable, the Korean manufacturer has confirmed, Digital Spy said.

Speaking exclusively with Digital Spy, an official Samsung spokesperson revealed the company is actively looking to follow in Android Wear's footsteps and open up its latest Tizen-powered wearable to the iPhone's iOS platform.

"We are looking at possibilities to open it up to iOS," the spokesperson told us while discussing the Gear S2. They added: "Because we opened it up to Android, we are looking at this."

While past Samsung smartwatches have been limited to use only with Samsung's own-brand handsets, the Gear S2 will play nice with all Android smartphones direct from the box when it hits retailers next month.

The only stipulations are that the supporting device must be running Android 4.4 or higher, and have at least 1.5GB of RAM.

This, however, would mark the first instance of a Samsung smartwatch supporting iOS.

Despite confirming its intent to bring iOS support to the Gear S2, Samsung wouldn't commit to a specific timeframe for the introduction.

Instead, the Galaxy S6 edge+ maker stated: "We are positively looking into opening it up."

Showcased for the first time at IFA 2015, the Gear S2 plays host to a 1.2-inch round Super AMOLED display and an innovative rotating bezel control mechanism.
