WhatsApp hits 900 million monthly active users milestone

PanARMENIAN.Net - WhatsApp has gone from strength to strength since it was bought out by Facebook, and it's just hit another milestone - 900 million monthly active users, Digital Spy reports.

The messaging service's founder Jan Koum took to Facebook to announce the feat, which comes seven months after WhatsApp hit the 700 million mark.

The surge comes as little surprise given that WhatsApp became only the second Android app to reach 1 billion downloads in June.

In comparison, Facebook's own Messenger app hit 700 million monthly active users in June following its separation from the core service.

Facebook's main mobile app boasts a whopping 1.49 billion monthly active users, with mobile now the firm's biggest area of growth.

The social network acquired WhatsApp in a deal worth $22 billion in 2014. It's looking like a shrewd purchase on Mr Zuckerberg's part right now.
