Mia Wasikowska gets cold welcome in “Crimson Peak” thriller clip

PanARMENIAN.Net - There’s a chill in the air in the newly released clip for Guillermo del Toro’s gothic romance Crimson Peak, and not just because of the drafty, crumbling mansion at the heart of the story, Entertainment Weekly said.

Mia Wasikowska plays Edith Cushing, an aspiring novelist who gets swept off her feet by the dashing Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) but seems only to irk his creepy sister, Lucille (Jessica Chastain), with whom he resides in a sprawling manse atop a mountain of blood-red clay.

After Lucille chides her for getting startled in her new home, Edith says, “I just need a proper welcome, that’s all. From now on, I want this house to contain nothing but friendship and love and warmth.”

Warmth seems to be in short supply at Allerdale Hall — as evinced by Lucille’s unmoved expression and Thomas’ springing into action to draw his new bride a hot bath — but there is plenty of loaded imagery to go around.

“The pipes will run red at first because of the clay,” Thomas says, seemingly without irony, “but soon the water will clear.”

Crimson Peak opens Oct. 16.
