Apple “to resize its headphone jacks for thinner iPhone”September 22, 2015 - 17:41 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - It looks like Apple is prepared to go to great lengths to make its future iPhones thinner, and that could even include resizing its headphone jacks, Digital Spy reports. AppleInsider has dug up a patent Apple filed for a new type of headphone port called a 'D jack', which has a diameter of 2.0mm. As standard audio inputs measure in at 3.5mm, the new jack could shave inches off the next iPhone, but it would only work with a specific type of connector. Apple pulled a similar stunt when it introduced the lightning adapter with the iPhone 5, so the move to bespoke audio jacks is not out of the question. It is unclear whether the technology will be ready in time for next year's iPhone 7, which is expected to sport a different design to the current iPhone 6S. If the Cupertino firm does go down this road, expect Apple-owned Beats to start making D jack-compatible headphones to keep up with its parent company.
