FilmBuff nabs Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner “The Russian Woodpecker”

PanARMENIAN.Net - FilmBuff has acquired the rights to distribute Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner “The Russian Woodpecker”, the digital entertainment curator announced Tuesday, September 22, according to TheWrap.

The documentary, which won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will be released in select theaters and available on On Demand platforms starting Oct. 16.

The film tells the true story of Fedor Alexandrovich, a man who was exposed to the toxic effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster at just four years old and forced to leave his own home in 1986. Now 33, he in an artist in the Ukraine with radioactive strontium in his bones. He begins an investigation that questions what really happened at Chernobyl, and hopes to find out what an enormous steel structure called The Russian Woodpecker is.

“The Russian Woodpecker” is directed by Gracia, shot by Artem Ryzhykov and produced by Oscar-nominated producer Mike Lerner, Gracia and Ram Devineni. It will be available on all major On Demand platforms such as Amazon Instant Video, Google Play and iTunes.
