Maisie Williams to topline “The Forest of Hands and Teeth” adaptation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Maisie Williams is in negotiations to star in writer/director Kate Maberly adaptation of “The Forest of Hands and Teeth,” Variety reports.

Maberly is also producing the film with Doug Liman through her Hetherwood Productions.

Based on Carrie Ryan’s New York Times best-seller, the story is set “sometime in the future,” in a world where most of the human race has been taken by a bloodthirsty virus that leaves them roaming the planet as cannibals. Mary (Williams) seeks a world beyond the fenced-off village of survivors. The survival of the human race soon becomes dependent upon her success in leading a ragtag group through the dark depths of the Forest of Hands and Teeth.

“I am so incredibly excited to be stepping into the ‘Forest’ and collaborating with such a brilliant creative mind as Doug’s,” Maberly said. “We can’t wait to bring Ryan’s fantastical world to life and are absolutely thrilled to have Maisie on board.”

Maberly has already started gaining attention from studio execs as her short, “Charlie’s Supersonic Glider,” is generating buzz prior to its premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival on Thursday night.

The writer/director got her start as an actress in the 1993 film “The Secret Garden.” She has since appeared in a handful of other films, including “The Last of the Blonde Bombshells” with Judi Dench.

“At Hypnotic we pride ourselves on our track record with first-time showrunners, and as a film director, I have enjoyed equal success working with new talent,” said Liman, who is about finish production on the Tom Cruise movie “Mena.” “Working with Kate over the last year on ‘Forest,’ I have seen her blossom into an extraordinary storyteller.”

As for Williams, the young actress is a fan favorite on “Game of Thrones” and has received plenty of critical acclaim over the hit HBO show’s last five seasons.

Williams most recently appeared on “Doctor Who” and has a handful of film roles, such as “Gold” and “The Falling,” on the horizon.
