VivaCell-MTS, Fuller Center build houses in border villages

PanARMENIAN.Net - VivaCell-MTS and Fuller Center for Housing Armenia are building a house in the village of Nerkin Karmiraghbyur, Tavush region, located only 1.5 km from the state border.

The position of the village makes it vulnerable to constant fire by the rival, but the villagers are strong and adamant as ever, confident that peaceful days will come sooner or later. Despite all the hardships, they are engaged in viticulture, continue cultivating their land, proving that the determination and the will to protect one’s homeland is much stronger. The villagers of Nerkin Karmiraghbyur consider themselves as frontier guards, and with good reason.

Babken Avagyan has endured the hardships of war. Years ago, explosions almost completely demolished his house. The Avagyan family did not despair – they sought support of various organizations in renovating their house. Their dream came true thanks to VivaCell-MTS and Fuller Center for Housing Armenia. Besides the financial support, VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, staff members of the Company and Fuller Center for Housing Armenia have also participated in the construction works of Avagyan’s half-built house.

“The shelling has recently got more frequent but nothing can break our spirit. Let the enemy know we are not going to leave our village: this is our home, this is our homeland,” Avagyan said.

“This visit is importance in boosting people's morale,” VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian said. “People living in border villages should feel that they are not alone. Upon completion of construction works we will leave the village, yet the Avagyans will stay to protect our border. We must appreciate their determination to stay and defend the homeland.”

VivaCell-MTS invested AMD100 million (AMD55 million in 2014) in the project in 2015, with Fuller Center for Housing Armenia implementing it.

The number of the families having their houses renovated or reconstructed will reach 93 by the end of the year.
