Fox picks up “Rosewood” for full season

PanARMENIAN.Net - Fox is staying on the case with Rosewood. The network on Friday, October 16 handed out a full-season order for freshman drama Rosewood, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The procedural, starring Morris Chestnut as Miami's top private pathologist, has been a sturdy performer opening Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ahead of mega-hit Empire. Thus far, Rosewood is averaging a 2.2 among the all-important adults 18-49 demographic and 7.3 million total viewers. Factoring in delayed viewing and streaming on Hulu and Fox Now, Rosewood's first two telecasts totaled 9.1 million total viewers.

"Rosewood has proven to be a real self-starter for us, which is a tremendous feat on this highly competitive night," Fox entertainment president David Madden said of the drama produced in-house by sibling studio 20th Century Fox Television. "[Showrunner] Todd Harthan, Morris, [co-stars] Jaina [Lee Ortiz], Lorraine [Toussaint] and the entire cast and crew have done a fantastic job creating a gorgeous, sexy world that is the perfect complement to Empire. The upcoming episodes are so compelling as we build out the family dynamics, and with today’s order, we’re excited to explore the world of Rosewood even further this season."

Rosewood is one of a handful of freshman medical dramas ordered this season as broadcasters look for the heir apparent to ABC's aging Grey's Anatomy. CBS recently launched hospital-set Code Black and NBC has Chicago Med and Heartbreaker due later this season.

For Fox, Rosewood becomes its second rookie to earn a full-season order. The network preemptively handed out an additional episode order to comedy Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life that will keep the midseason entry in production. Elsewhere, the net ordered additional scripts for Tuesday comedies Grandfathered and The Grinder, which bode well for full-season pickups though it doesn't guarantee it.

In terms of the rest of the 2015-16 freshman class, NBC's Blindspot and ABC's Quantico have also been picked up for full seasons.
