“The Danish Girl” trailer features Eddie Redmayne

PanARMENIAN.Net - The emotional second trailer for The Danish Girl has been released, Digital Spy reports.

The film follows Eddie Redmayne as transgender pioneer Einar Wegener - the Danish painter who was among the first to have gender reassignment surgery in the early 1930s to become Lili Elbe.

In the new trailer, pre-transition Lili explains how she has to live every day as a man, while her wife Gerda (Alicia Vikander) tries to help her find the help she needs to be who she wants to be.

Unfortunately Gerda turns to a man who would rather lock Lili up in a psychiatric hospital than help her.

Redmayne recently opened up about researching his role in the film, saying that he wanted to "clarify the difference between sexuality and gender".

"I met many people from the trans community, both men and women; I particularly wanted to meet people from different generations, as the film was set at a time when there was no precursor."

The film's director Tom Hooper has also spoken out about the "problem" of transgender film roles, saying: "In the industry at the moment there is a problem: there is a huge pool of talent of trans actors, and access to parts is limited.

"I would champion any shift where the industry embraces trans actors and celebrates trans film-makers."

The Danish Girl is released November 27 in the US and January 1 in the UK.
