Court releases life convict for the first time in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork-Marash districts granted the request by the “Hospital for Convicts” for the release of Soghomon Kocharyan, imprisoned for life.

This is the first case of life convict's release in Armenia.

A Karabakh war veteran and 2nd category disabled, Kocharyan was hospitalized in Grigor Lusavorich medical center in August, 2015. His condition is deemed stable heavy. Kocharyan is diagnosed with ischemic heart disease, i.e. 4th stage heart failure, as well as chronic postinfarction aneurysm and pneumonia.

Kocharian was sentenced to death for murdering an Iranian Azerbaijani in 1995. By Armenian President's decree, the death penalty was commuted to life imprisonment in 2003.
