Sony’s Xperia arm losing $1.9 million per dayOctober 30, 2015 - 18:44 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Strong sales in its PlayStation and image sensor divisions have helped Sony turn a profit, but its Xperia mobile range continues to haemorrhage money, Digital Spy reports. Tablets and smartphone are costing the consumer electronics giant $1.9 million per day, according to its latest financial results. Mobile phone sales declined by 15% during the three-month period in question, so there's a lot riding on the upcoming Xperia Z5 family of handsets. Despite its mobile woes, Sony raked in 33.6 billion yen (around $278m) in profit thanks to surging PS4 sales and fruitful image sensor deals with the likes of Apple. The marks a 0.5% revenue decline year on year, but Sony claims that the declining Japanese yen has impacted on its fiscal results. Sony sold another 4 million PS4 consoles during the quarter, putting the system at 29.3 million lifetime sales - only the Nintendo Wii has ever managed that many in such a short space of time.
