PanARMENIAN.Net - The Weinstein Company has announced that "The Six Billion Dollar Man", a film adaptation of a classic 1970s TV series of the same name, will be released in theaters across the nation on December 22, 2017. Mark Wahlberg is on board to play a lead role, AceShowbiz reports.

Production is set to begin in September 2016. Damian Szifron, who wrote the screenplay, is replacing Peter Berg as director. Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Bob Weinstein are producing the film.

The movie follows military officer Steve Austin, who joins a top secret government program after a horrific crash of an experimental plane. With the help of sophisticated technology, Steve is brought back to life with super-human abilities, making him the world's first truly bionic man.

"Writing the screenplay was such a fantastic ride and embarking on this journey with Mark, Bob and Stephen to take this story to a whole new level is simply spectacular," said Szifron.

In other news, Sony Pictures Animation has announced that "Hotel Transylvania 3" is officially in the works. The third film in the animated franchise will be released in North America on September 22, 2018. The voice cast members and plot details have yet to be revealed.

The second film, "Hotel Transylvania 2", which was recently released in September, performed better than its predecessor and has grossed more than $370 million globally.
