Yahoo to show Flickr photos in image search results

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yahoo is expanding its search results to pull in photos that users have uploaded to Flickr account. If one is signed into their account on the photo social network and happen to run an image search on Yahoo, the system will display the publicly available photos they have taken that match up with that criteria, along with images from people users follow and top public photos on Flickr, VentureBeat reports.

In a way, Yahoo is further integrating the search capability that already exists within Flickr. Run a search within the photo site and you’ll get the same type of results: your photos, those from people you follow, and the top public photos. But what Yahoo could be doing is positioning its image search as more of that one-stop shop — no longer will you have to go to multiple places to look for photos of the Blue Angels or hunt down an image of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Google’s image search is just a hodgepodge of photos, but its intelligent algorithm has been known to showcase media you’ve posted to Google+. While Yahoo may have a leg up right now, it may not for long — if it hasn’t done so already, Google’s probably doing some more work to better incorporate the files its 100 million monthly active users have in Google Photos into its search results.

This Yahoo feature is only available to web users in the U.S. It comes the day after Flickr released an updated iOS app that includes support for 3D Touch (similar to Instagram’s integration) and improvements to Spotlight search.
