President Sargsyan, Russia’s Lavrov talk cooperation, Karabakh conflict

PanARMENIAN.Net - President Serzh Sargsyan met Monday, November 9, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

At the meeting, the President hailed the dynamically developing Armenian-Russian relations, fostered by regular visits at different levels.

Meetings were organized in the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the 4th Inter-Regional Cooperation Forum, and the 3rd International Forum of the Alumni of Moscow State Institute of International Relations; the Armenian President visited Moscow in September and May, 2015.

In this context, the President characterized the meetings and events as productive for both parties. Sargsyan further expressed confidence that such relations prove the two countries’ intention to develop allied collaboration and jointly discuss the current issues in the frames of already existing formats.

The parties agreed that Armenia and Russia have been consistently promoting bilateral cooperation in economic, military and humanitarian sectors. In the last one and a half years, around three dozen interstate, inter-governmental, inter-ministerial and inter-regional documents have been signed. President Sargsyan alo stressed Russia's role in the Nagorno Karabakh peace process and in promoting security and stability in the region.

Lavrov said, in turn, that Russian President Vladimir Putin is committed to implementing the high-level agreements reached by the two countries. The Minister hailed the course of collaboration between Armenia and Russia, as well as the dynamically developing relationships in the frames of integration processes. According to him, Armenia’s full-fledged membership in the EEU will certainly have a positive impact on boosting economic relations.

Referring to the Nagorno Karabakh peace process, Lavrov stressed once again that the peaceful settlement of the conflict has no alternative.

At the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on current international issues and challenges.
