LG Watch Urbane 2 unveiled, Android Wear adds cellular connectivity

PanARMENIAN.Net - Smartwatch season is in full swing. With the Samsung Gear S2 and second-gen Moto 360 recently unveiled, now LG is getting in on the act, Digital Spy reports.

Building on the company's past oversized wearable efforts, the LG Watch Urbane 2 has landed as the first Android Wear powered device to sport cellular connectivity.

That means you don't need your phone to make this thing work - it hosts its own 4G connection options. It might actually be pretty useful then, assuming you don't mind browsing the web and answering calls from your wrist, that is.

Running a 480 X 480 pixel P-OLED touchscreen display for tight visuals, the catchily named LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE network-friendly wearable plays host to three physical buttons for quick access to your favourite features.

"The next time you're running an errand or a marathon, try leaving your phone behind," Peter Ludwig, Google's Android Wear Product Manager, said in a blog post.

"With calling, messaging, and thousands of apps right on your wrist, you'll always be able to stay in touch and on track. Say goodbye to bulky pockets and awkward armbands: cellular support for Android Wear lets you wear what you want."

Pricing and availability for the new Urbane has yet to be confirmed.
