Rooney Mara returning for “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” sequel?

PanARMENIAN.Net - Sony has announced that the studio is finally developing a follow-up to "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl in the Spider's Web". Previous rumors said that leading actress Rooney Mara would not return for the sequel. However, Mara recently denied the rumor, saying that she might be back to reprise her role as Lisbeth Salander, AceShowbiz reports.

The 30-year-old actress addressed the reports that she and co-star Daniel Craig would not be back for "The Girl in the Spider's Web". "As far as I know I'm doing it until someone tells me otherwise," Mara said in a recent interview with E! News. "And then I still might do it!"

The studio declined to comment on whether Mara and Craig would be back. Another report from TheWrap claimed that "Ex Machina" star Alicia Vikander was eyed to take over the role of the female computer hacker from Mara in the upcoming movie.

"Spider's Web" is the fourth book in Stieg Larsson's "Millenium" series, but it was written by David Lagercrantz after the original author died in 2004. Sony opted to bring "Spider's Web" to the big screen instead of the second book "The Girl Who Played with Fire". And "Fire" is now expected to follow "Spider's Web". There is no filmmaker attached to direct the project just yet. Official release date has yet to be announced, but the movie is expected to arrive in the U.S. in 2018.
