Serj Tankian to score noted Karabakh helmer’s new film

PanARMENIAN.Net - Noted Karabakh director Jivan Avetisyan’s new film “The Last Inhabitant” centers on the only inhabitant of an Armenian village after deportation of its population during the Karabakh war. According to the director, the film to be released in 2016 is about self-sacrifice that emanates from love. The screenplay was written by Tsovinar Khachatryan and Masis Baghdasaryan. The film is produced by Masis Baghdasaryan, Gevorg Gevorgyan and Kestutis Drazdauskas.

According to Asbarez, Armenian-American singer-songwriter, composer, producer and lead vocalist of System of a Down Serj Tankian will score the music for the film. The film director is sure that the music will be in harmony with the events and the message of the film.

The film is about people “who have fallen from a lost paradise into hell but are saved by love, virtue, and self-sacrifice,” said Avetisyan and it focuses on the events of 1988 and 1989, which include the beginning of the Karabakh movement and the subsequent Azerbaijani pogroms of Armenians in Sumgait and elsewhere.

The director said that the events depicted in the film are of universal importance and those stories must be told.

World-renowned Iranian actor Homayoun Ershadi, Sandra Daukšaitė, Armenian actors Sos Janibekyan, Kevork Malikyan, Naira Muradyan, Babken Chobanyan and some of the stars of the film.

“The Last Inhabitant is about an Armenian village that has been forcibly emptied of its residents as a result of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. The film’s main character, Abgar, lives with his mentally ill daughter. After Azerbaijanis enter the village and attempt to rape his daughter, Abgar has no other choice but to fight and secure the safety of his daughter.
