"Minions," "Paddington" among BAFTA Children's Awards winners

PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal's Despicable Me spin-off Minions got the ultimate endorsement at the 2015 BAFTA Children's awards on Sunday, November 22 night, picking up the kids vote for best film, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Another big-name winner on the night was Paddington, StudioCanal's hugely successful franchise starter adapted from the much-loved books by Michael Bond. The film, which earned more than $250 million internationally after premiering just short of a year ago in the U.K., won the overall best feature category, beating the likes of Big Hero 6, Inside Out and the Shaun the Sheep Movie.

Elsewhere on the night, Alex Hirsch's animated series for DisneyXD, Gravity Falls, won the best international kids show award, while Nintendo's Wii U title Splatoon took the best game honor.

U.K. production outfit Somethin' Else was arguably the evening's biggest winner, going home with three awards, including for independent production company of the year, interactive - adapted series for The Dumping Ground: You're the Boss and learning - secondary for Poetry: Between the Lines.

The BAFTA award for best factual went to I am Leo (My Life), a documentary following the life of a 13-year-old transgender boy first broadcast as part of the BBC’s anti-bullying week.
